The Food and Drug Administration has issued a national recall of Diamond Pet Food manufactured between December 9, 2011 and April 7, 2012. The recall was initiated after salmonella was found in batches of the company’s food produced at their Gaston, South Carolina plant. No sick animals have been reported to the Food and Drug Administration related to eating pet food involved in the recall but 15 people have been reported ill with the outbreak salmonella strain. The recall involves 11 brands including Kirkland Signature foods for both dogs and cats.
Other brands not made by Diamond Pet but manufactured in the South Carolinafacility have also issued voluntary recalls. These foods include Wellness, Solid Gold, and Natural Balance.
So far, stores in 39 states have received food affected by the recall. Food has not been shipped to stores in Oregon or Washington.
