Veterinary Diagnostics

Veterinary Diagnostics

Veterinary diagnostics play an important role in maintaining good health. Whether it’s a fecal test to ensure a pet is free of intestinal parasites, or blood work for a senior pet to verify he or she doesn’t have a thyroid disorder, these tools allow our veterinarians to keep a careful eye on pets’ internal organs and systems.

When emergencies arise, veterinary diagnostics help us to accurately pinpoint what’s happening so that we can provide quality care as quickly as possible. They also enable us to confer with our network of board-certified specialists to confirm which treatment options are best suited for certain conditions and diseases.

Veterinary Laboratory

Laboratory tests are used to diagnose a wide range of pet health issues. These include everything from skin fungal infections, tick-borne diseases, and bacterial pathogens like leptospirosis to hormonal conditions like Cushing’s disease.

Our hospital is equipped with a top-quality veterinary laboratory. We can obtain tests results within 15 minutes when needed, enabling us to provide emergency veterinary care. We also work closely with a local commercial veterinary lab that often gives us same-day results.

When your pet has a fecal test performed, it will be sent out to the commercial lab where a dedicated specialist will review it. We do this to ensure the highest possible accuracy in our results. Many intestinal parasites are potentially infectious to people, and we want to protect your family as well as your pet. The lab also performs chemical tests to detect potential problems that aren’t always visible under the microscope.

Other lab tests that our veterinarians may conduct include pet skin scrapings, complete blood counts, serum chemistry profiles, urinalyses, and tumor needle aspirates.

Radiology

Veterinary X-rays, also known as radiographs, are another valuable diagnostic tool. They are frequently used to diagnose potential fractures, as well as joint and lameness issues.

Our veterinarians will utilize chest radiographs to check for heart disease, lung disease, and the presence of tumors. Abdominal radiographs are helpful in identifying ingested foreign objects, as well as kidney and bladder issues.

We work closely with a board-certified radiologist who reviews all of our patients’ radiographs to ensure the best possible care. In addition, the radiologist performs veterinary ultrasounds for our patients when needed.

Network of Specialists

Our highly skilled doctors have extensive experience across all areas of veterinary internal medicine. However, we understand that there are times when the expertise of a board-certified specialist is needed. We work closely with a network of veterinary experts that includes cardiologists, oncologists, critical care specialists, and more. We won’t hesitate to confer with them in order to provide your pet with the care he or she needs.
